Clearing Your Space

A smudging stick being lit over a decorative red object — used for energetic space clearing

I will be the first to admit that I don't energetically clear my space nearly enough. And when I finally do, I am always surprised by how huge a difference it makes in the energy of my home!

I finally made time to do a full home clearing last week while my husband was out of town. Typically, everyone complains about the smell. I was finally alone, so I made a major production of saging our space.

I used a sage and lavender combination stick. Sage is great for clearing, but lavender can add a much needed kick for addressing emotional pain. I like my two-fers, so this particular stick was a great investment.

I began in my meditation space at the top of our home. I stopped just shy of setting off smoke detectors. I kept windows cracked to allow the smoke to exit. Some say it is good to have windows open so "the negative energy can exit." I personally ask for help in transmuting anything negative, or leave it to my guides to do what is best. I am cautious of just letting the negative out since it can stay in the neighborhood if not transformed. Ultimately, it is best to do what feels right to you.

As I traveled down from my meditation space, I entered all rooms, got into corners, opened closets and waved smoke into them, and spent extra time in areas where we spend a lot of time, i.e., around the Lazyboy, bathrooms, and bedrooms. My bedroom on the ground floor was particularly difficult to clear. I kept trying to light the stick, and it would not catch. I checked under the bed, and I was horrified by my lack of housekeeping skills. I spent a good half hour removing the dust bunnies (to put it kindly) while mentally setting intentions for clearing of emotional issues and patterns that no longer serve. Once I was satisfied, I fired up the sage, and what do you know? It lit up no problem.

When my husband returned, he felt the peace. The next morning, he did not wake up with a severe headache, which was his norm. Of course, the dust under the bed was a major contributor to his headaches, but it was not the only one. A week later, we are still feeling the peace and he is headache-free.

You might ask yourself, "what do I know about home clearing? I am not a guru, I have no idea what I am doing..." Put these thoughts out of your head. Anyone can do it. The only requirement is the sage or other means, such as singing, singing bowls, sea salt spray, eagle feathers, the list goes on. Of all the tools, the one that really matters is your intention. If you request removal/transformation of energies that no longer serve you, you will be well on your way.

In love and light
