Freshly baked bread — a symbol of unexpected gifts and trust

So, the craziest, most delightful occurrence happened yesterday!

I have been in a kind of funk recently. I've been in my head quite a bit, juggling, planning, having plans get thrown out the window, more planning, worrying... I'm sure many of you can relate. It probably goes without saying that I have not been very present while planning for our future retirement. I realize even as I wallow in it; how do I break out of the worrying-about-the-future paralysis and enjoy my present?

The more I run scenarios to control what I know I cannot control, the more stagnant and unmotivated I become in my daily life. I rarely take the advice I give others about trusting, allowing, and letting life play out with the intention that everything will work out. I have been asking my spiritual team for help to break this detrimental pattern. Then yesterday, I got an answer that really highlighted how I am looked after and all will work out. The message arrived in the form of bread!

I need to back up a bit. I woke up yesterday unmotivated and a bit down. I didn't need to grocery shop, but I wanted bread. I had an open jar of pesto in the fridge that I didn't want to go bad, and I didn't feel like boiling noodles. I also didn't feel like walking 150 meters to the store to buy bread. I was caught up in a food waste, pesto-loving and laziness thought-tornado. This continued off and on until about 5 pm. I never made it to the store, the jar was still in the fridge, and I was clearly not going to get my bread. I was resigned to this fact.

All of a sudden, the doorbell rang. We weren't expecting anyone, and I can count on one hand how often anyone unexpected has rung our bell in our 5+ years in our little Swiss town, and never on a Saturday evening at dinner time. I opened the door, and an older gentleman was standing there with a wagon filled with bread! Boules, baguettes, croissants — it was just the craziest thing I had ever seen since arriving in Switzerland! The gentleman explained that he had too much bread from his shop up in the mountains, so he drove down to give it away so it wouldn't go to waste.

I accepted a baguette, a croissant and a sweet raisin roll in awe, and with profound gratitude. This was soooo much more than a simple bread delivery. I knew it was a message from my divine team.

So again, I am reminded how important it is to live in the present and savor each moment. I don't have all the answers about our future, and that is OK. If I can allow a little space for surprises and best case scenarios to unfold, what will be delivered in its proper time will be so much better than any plans we try to set in stone right now.

Gotta love those lessons in TRUST!
