Chronic Back Pain Relief

Chronic back pain is a very debilitating problem suffered by a significant percentage of the population. According to Georgetown University Health Policy Institute, "Some 16 million adults — 8 percent of all adults — experience persistent or chronic back pain, and as a result are limited in certain everyday activities. Health care costs and indirect costs due to back pain are over $12 billion per year."
What we don't always realize is there can be an emotional or spiritual root cause contributing to back pain, or any other physical pain. One specific client's story illustrates this beautifully, and with a name change, I share:
"Ellen" came to me due to her mother's urging. She did not believe in Reiki or intuitive healing, but she had been in so much pain for several years to the point where she had to go on disability. She had tried several mainstream options for treatment and pain management, but nothing worked. She wanted to get back to work and was willing to try just about anything.
Ellen arrived for her session. She told her story, and added that working with me was not really her thing. She was only seeing me because her mother basically bullied her into it. She mentioned she had just gotten into a car accident and hurt her arm a few days earlier, so that was a concern, as well as her back pain. I gave her the option of leaving, because no one should be forced into an unwanted treatment. Ellen thought about it, and then decided she wanted to continue since she had already made the trip to see me.
I began her session. I was guided as usual by my spiritual team, as well as hers. I cleared energetic blocks that were standing in the way of healing using Reiki, sound healing and dowsing. In Ellen's case, there was an important message that came to me. I was asked to let her know that she was taking on her patients' pain. Ellen was a nurse, and her compassion was so great, she always felt like she wanted to take away her charges' pain. I explained the message I received, and she began to cry. I told her she can have compassion, but in no way does anyone else's pain belong to her. We discussed boundaries and protection so she could prevent taking on others' pain once she got back to work.
She left my office with no arm pain and significantly less back pain. She was shocked by the immediate relief and sense of peace. She had back surgery a couple weeks later, and it was a success. Ellen was able to return to nursing. There is no doubt in my mind that the surgery's success was in great part due to our session together. The beauty is, she didn't have to believe in it and it still worked.
